Virus and Spyware Removal

myotherdrive.com	The first thing you should do before you attempt to remove any viruses or spyware you should back up all of your data. The easiest way to do this would be to copy everything to an external harddrive. Secondarily, I would copy it to the cloud to a site such as myotherdrive.com, they offer 2gb of free storage and have the best prices that I have found for additional storage.
Everest Home Edition	Second, you should install and run Everest Home Edition. This program will generate a report of all of your hardware on your computer. This is precautionary, in case something bad happens and you have to re-format your harddrive. If necessary you can use the report to download the necessary drivers for you computer. This report should not be stored on your local harddrive, it should be saved on an external harddrive or in the cloud.
HiJackThis	Next you should run and install HiJackThis, which will create a log file that will tell you all of the programs running on your computer including viruses and spyware. If you later need assistance from a computer expert this file will help them determine what steps are necessary to return your computer to working order. Again this file should not be saved on your local harddrive.
CCleaner	This program will remove all of the cookies, temporary files and all other extraneous files on your computer. Install and run this program. You can download this program for free, on the first page click download and on the second page look for the filehippo.com link and click it. Alternatively you can go to filehippo.com and search for CCleaner.
Add / Remove Programs	Go to Control Panel and go to Add / Remove Programs. You should uninstall all unnecessary programs. It is very important that you do not uninstall something if you do not know what it is. If you want to remove something but you don't know what it is you should look it up on google before you uninstall it.
Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool	This is the first of several scans that you will be running. For Windows XP go to Start>Run and type MRT. For Windows Vista go to Start>Accessories>Run and type MRT. This is Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool, it is designed to remove numerous malware programs that would be very difficult to remove otherwise.
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware	This is an excellent program for removing malware from your computer. Install and run.
SUPERAntiSpyware	This program is specifically for spyware. Run and install, once installed it will also provide real-time protection.
ESET Free Online Scanner	This is an excellent free online virus scanner. It may take several hours depending on the size of your hardddrive.
